Program Description

Invasive fungal infections are a major determinant of mortality in high risk patients and represent a serious diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the clinician.  Appropriate antifungal therapy – initiated at the earliest stages of infection – is an essential component of successful clinical outcomes.

These diagnostic difficulties are compounded by issues of shifting patterns of fungal pathogens as well as the emergence of resistance to existing antifungal therapies.

This program addresses the growing importance of fungal infections with an emphasis on the etiology as well as current surveillance data and its critical importance for clinical practice. In addition, emerging therapies will also be discussed in the context of how they compliment current treatment strategies.
